“High energy cosmic ray data and hadronic interaction models: how much is yet uncertain?”
Abstract:
The
description of high energy hadronic interactions in
the QGSJET-II model is discussed in some detail in comparison with alternative
approaches and the key issue of model uncertainty of cosmic ray data
interpretation is addressed. In particular, a special attention is paid to the
predicted energy dependence of hadronic cross
sections and of the so-called inelasticity in connection to extensive air
shower (EAS) elongation rate. Also general constraints on the EAS muon content are discussed, stressing the role of direct muon measurements at and above the 'knee' energies.
